Studio Owner

Karen Barfield, a native Houstonian, established Barfield Photography in 1972. She is a Certified Professional Photographer, a Master Photographer, and a Photographic Craftsman. These are the titles awarded by the Professional Photographers of America to photographers who have demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge and artistic abilities in the field of professional photography.

Karen is the studio's portrait specialist and has had thirty years of experience in photographing individuals and groups. She is very skilled at putting people at ease so that they actually enjoy the process of being photographed. She is well known for her ability to create flattering images of her subjects and is especially good with people who are uncomfortable being photographed.

As a respected teacher and speaker to amateur and professional photography groups, Karen has often served as a judge in photographic competitions. She was awarded an Honorary Professor of Photography Degree from Sam Houston State University for outstanding service in photographic education. She has been teaching photography out of her studio for over twenty years. She is a President and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Professional Photographers Guild of Houston and has been named one of Houston's Outstanding Business women by the Federation of Houston Professional Women.

Karen has a variety of slide shows which she will present, at no charge, to any group needing a speaker. She has also created a collection of fine art prints and photographic note cards.

Studio Manager

Debi Wallace has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston and has been the studio manager of Barfield Photography since 1993.

Debi is an experienced photojournalistic photographer who is excellent at capturing the emotions and beauty of today's wedddings. The events of your wedding can be captured spontaneously as they occur with little or no interference from the photographer or, at your request, she can expertly pose people for some traditional potrait type images.
